Drainage

Why is drainage important?

When water saturated soils are stressed, either by loads being applied or the stresses exerted by an earthquake, water pressure in soils can climb drastically, thereby reducing the soil’s stability.

Loading a water saturated soil can result in the water being “squeezed” out of a soil which can cause time dependent settlement issues. By installing AMPiers, this settlement can be accelerated, because the AMPiers are more permeable than the soil and allow water to escape the soil more quickly.

In an earthquake situation, AMPiers can also help the water pressure in liquefiable soils escape to the surface much faster than in untreated soil due to increased drainage properties of an AMPier.
