Industrial Facility

Aggregate pier slab reinforcement.

location GA

The project was planned for rigid inclusions to a deep weathered rock layer.

Wurster Betterground proposed aggregate piers may be a viable option given more exploration.

WBG coordinated with the geotechnical engineer to establish a testing program based on CPTs in conjunction with DMTs.

By analyzing the additional data, Wurster Betterground was able to design and install a variable diameter aggregate pier solution which controlled total and differential settlements to suitable levels.

This value engineering, while having some up-front costs (additional geotechnical exploration, finite elements analysis, etc.) saved the client and general contractor weeks of schedule, and helped to reduce the cost of the foundation system significantly.

The project was completed with time to spare with below-threshold settlements and testing results.
